Tuesday, September 23, 2008The sun is back in the Columbia River Gorge!
Yesterday was the first day of fall and today is really welcoming it in! The sun is cresting and the sky's are bright blue. I have to say though with fall sure does come with some quick and hasty temperature changes. Just last week ago we were waking to 75 -80 degrees and as I turned my defrost on this morning 48 is what my dash said it was.
Take a drive this week, quit making excuses and just go for a drive. Breath the fresh air and gaze at the beauty that is so close to all of you in the city! You will be amazed at how refreshed and energized something as simple as a drive through the gorge will do for your mind, body and soul. Stop by on your way through and we will give you a tour and treat you to a fresh baked snack! Share with us some of your favorite fall spots in the gorge?! This is the first day the rain has decided to grace us with its presence for quite some time. What's this mean?
Fall is coming and we can see the proof of that by just looking out the window. The green is slowly but surely withering away into some fantastically beautiful golds, oranges, brilliant reds and i have even seen some outstanding versions of purple off some maple trees. Get your camera they are going to come and go quickly. This weather is going to make some outstanding hiking, fishing and yes.. yes per our guests, I have heard even the white water rafting is outstanding right now. Other than the outdoor extravaganzas going on, Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery is having their annual open house today 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Anyone have any spots or places that are a must see during this beautiful season? Well their is a little bit of a breeze this morning along side some gloomy clouds but we have been spoiled with sunshine for so long I am not going to complain to much.
The fire crews have been busy this week with wildfires through out the gorge area. Last Thursday right down by the marina in Hood River (only about 28 miles away) a wild fire started and burned over 76 acres before it was contained and yesterday another popped up. According to KATU it is a wild fire that originated in August of this year, this fire which is also adding to the gloomy haze through out the gorge is only 10 percent contained as of today. On a brighter side tonight we have some action in the area. The Golden Garter Theatre is performing at the Rock Creek Center in downtown Stevenson. Bring the family and enjoy a good-old fashioned Magical Melodrama. You can laugh along with this live comedy stage play where "good always triumphs, true love is always mutual and evil is always vanquished." The play is 7:45-10:00 pm and you can reserve your tickets by calling 888-473-7869 Well thats all we hope you have a wonderful day and we will look forward to talking to you soon! Well the sun is out and the breeze is perfect. Carson is proving to be a perfect location for a sunday drive. We are the gateway to Mount Saint Helans, cozy camp grounds, huckle berry picking and the great out doors.
The Cabins are hosting guests from all over the U.S. this weekend including New york, California and Seattle, to name a few. New York and California are going to take a drive on highway 35 today. This highway is the original pre- interstate 84 and was placed at a higher level due to the Columbia River not having Dams back in the early 1900's and tended to flood above where 84 is now. At any rate the old Highway is an amazing drive, the entire highway span is filled with waterfalls, hikes, and spectacular views. If you get hungry Multnomah Falls has a beautiful atrium to sit and have lunch from their mouth watering menu while looking out at the falls above. Tonight the River City Saloon in Hood River is hosting Rootz Underground a revolution reggae sound that is raw, natural and edgy. They are Live at 6:00pm and while your there you can enjoy a meal from their Global Grill. You can grab more information at their web site www.rivercitysaloon.com Well enjoy your day and try not to have to much fun!
