Going Green

The Innkeepers, Pete and Latisha, are both professional environmental biologists who believe in doing what you love because life is too short to do what you think you ought to. Therefore, as innkeepers they get to work with their two main passions: hospitality and protecting the environment while showcasing the importance of environmental protection.

Naturally, Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins is an up-and-coming “Green Development.”

Carson Ridge’s Green Program currently includes:

  • Member of the “I Stay Green” hotels program
  • A recycling program for the entire property, with blue boxes in all cabins to encourage guests to recycle and remind them of the importance of recycling. Presently there isn’t a recycling program in the Carson area, so the items disposed of in the blue boxes are sorted into recyclable categories and delivered to the nearest recycle depot.
  • The cabins’ complimentary bottles of water have been replaced with reusable glass bottles, along with reusable PCB-free plastic water bottles for hiking and touring around.
  • Disposable coffee cups have been replaced with re-usable to-go mugs so you can still have your coffee on the road, but not harm the environment.
  • Call the Carson Ridge front desk and we will take care of everything

  • A towel re-use program is in place so only towels that require washing will be replaced, thus reducing both water and energy consumption.
  • Using environmentally-friendly bathroom amenities, such as Natura and Burt’s Bees
  • All of our windows open, allowing fresh air to come into the room and cool it off. Fresh air is much healthier than the stale air of a closed room.
  • We reduce energy by using energy-efficient lighting, appliances, insulation, weather stripping, and turning off lights and appliances when not in use.
  • When appliances and equipment wear out we replace them with more energy-efficient models.
  • On-demand water heaters are used so electricity is not wasted heating a water tank.
  • Pathways to the cabins are lit with solar lights.
  • The gardens are low maintenance and don’t require watering.
  • All food is purchased locally and in season when possible.  Apples, pears, black berries, and plums are grown organically on the property, while other fruits are obtained from a local orchard.
  • Creating partnerships with other organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to preserving the environment.
  • Utilizing environmentally responsible building materials and strategies for new properties and renovations to reduce environmental impact.
